Not your typical pharmacist

Having decided to become a pharmacist at the age of 15, I once thought my career was comfortably set out for me. Fulfilling roles in community and primary care pharmacy followed, yet I found I had a creative itch that needed scratching. A place at drama school helped open up a world of writing, media and education that has enriched and complemented my pharmacy skills. I now work with a range of organisations to produce written and media content. I am a skilled trainer, communicator and course developer.

An interest in spiritual wellbeing came about from my personal practice of Buddhism. I also work part-time as hospital chaplain.

Pharmacist

A registered pharmacist who has been around a bit! Starting out with a large pharmacy chain, my career progressed to senior roles in primary care and education. I was a trustee for six years with the profession’s benevolent charity Pharmacist Support and continue to work part-time at the coal face of community pharmacy.

Media

Taking a career break to complete an MA in Acting gave me the skills and confidence to work on screen and behind a microphone. Being selected as a media spokesperson for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society allowed me to fine tune my skills on TV and radio.

Writer

I have a knack for pitching content at the level a reader will best respond to. From short web articles to full-on training programmes, I know how to engage and inform others.

Trainer

Ranging from one-to-one learning to packed lecture theatres, face-to-face or online, my experience of training is extensive. Going beyond my pharmacy knowledge, I have specialist interests in public health and wellbeing, and spiritual and pastoral care.

What is Danabha?

Danabha was the name given to me as an ordained Buddhist. It translates as ‘he who has the brightness of giving’ and recognises a quality observed in me and something to aspire towards.

My Buddhist practice has broadened my perspective of health and wellbeing far beyond my pharmacy roots and inspired me to become a part-time hospital chaplain
